In East Mamprusi District of Northern Ghana, the project’s IRS District Operations Coordinator (DOC) decided to celebrate the successful (over 90% spray coverage) and timely completion of the 2019 spray operations with a soccer game. On the last day of the spray campaign after spray operators had returned from the field, the project’s district staff (DOC, Logistics Assistant, Stores Assistant, Site Managers, Supervisors, M&E Assistants, Data entry and IECs), SOPs, TLs and Packers all took to the field. A female SOP was a captain for the SOPs side and the DOC was a captain for the project staff side to encourage everyone’s involvement while community members cheered for both sides. The game built enthusiasm for IRS, created togetherness and bridged the gap between the project staff, seasonal workers and the community. After the game, the teams marched and sang from the soccer field to the operational site, where refreshments were served and the district IRS lead shared advice and addressed lingering questions on IRS and malaria from the community.
