This week VectorLink Cameroon completed Phase 1 of the mass distribution of ITNs, which encompasses 14 out of the 30 districts in the Far North. This is a big milestone for the project as Cameroon is a new focus country for PMI and the project’s first mass distribution campaign. In Cameroon, 96% of the distribution data has already been submitted by the 14 districts. According to the data, 93% of the targeted population has been reached and 92% of the targeted households have been reached. That translates into 1.3 million nets distributed, protecting 2.34 million people.
Phase 1 distribution included 14 districts at 709 sites. In the past week, VectorLink Cameroon held team meetings with the health areas and distribution agents; deployed town criers; distributed ITNs; and supervised distribution at the central, regional, district, and health area levels, in coordination with partners. The project had strong engagement and buy-in with traditional leaders, particularly in Lamido, Lawane, and Blâma.
Phase 2 distribution will cover 16 additional districts with household registration taking place October 12-21 and distribution planned for November 15-19.
Big shout outs to VL Cameroon COP Dr. Etienne Fondjo; ITN Program Manager Danbé Flaubert; LLIN Focal Point Annie Michele Mabally, ITN Distribution Consultant Freddy Lokossa, as well as to Mary Kante, ITN Technical Advisor.
